Tips on choosing an online credit card

24 June 2008

Choosing an online credit card can be confusing. With so many online credit card options on the market, all with similar features, it can be difficult to figure out which is the best for your spending needs.

Will you be able to pay off your online credit card monthly? Some financial institutions have high penalties for late payments. Many people choose to pay their online credit card off monthly. This allows you to keep track of your spending and avoid fines.

Can you control your spending habits? Some people find it easier to plan ahead and put aside a certain amount each month to pay off their online credit card. If you have a habit of making impulse buys, will you be able to afford the repayments?

Can you afford to pay more than the minimum repayments? By paying more than the required monthly minimum on your online credit card, you'll be able to pay your purchases off faster and avoid incurring more interest.

What sort of rewards do you want, if any? Many online credit cards come with reward programs, but if you don't think you're going to use them, or you don't want to pay the fees that sometimes come with reward programs, you might be better off looking for an online credit card that doesn't have a reward program.
